I live on a very residential street and a newer Camry was supposedly driving down the road and lost control (not sure I'm buying that it was a car malfunction). The car hit my next door neighbors mailbox and then a pretty small boulder and flipped over. I was sitting on my couch and basically saw the tail end of it. It happened about an hour ago and I'm still shaking. I watched a woman crawl out the window and then a man driving by pulled over and climbed in the window and emerged a couple minutes later with a quiet baby who looked about 2. They took the baby away on a stretcher. OMG. That's all I know. Well, the driver said the brakes didn't work but I still don't understand how you if you lost control of the brakes on a very flat road w/ no traffic how you then run onto someone's yard.
SO not to turn this about myself... I'm just so shaken up that I wonder if it's a sign or I'm just upset. ALL my friends' 4yo's are in boosters.. probably all Gracos. I don't soapbox but I'm so tempted to post this on FB: "Children should be keep in rear facing and then 5-point harness car seats until they reach the maximum height and weight limits (the age recommendations are generally minimums). There are very safe car seats that provide maximum protection with the use of a 5-point harness up to 85lbs. It may not be cool but is much safer than a booster, especially for smaller/younger kids. " Does it make sense? It's right, right? I just bought DD who is 7 (average height and weight) a Montrery but not I want to return it and get her a Frontier 85. Should I? sorry that I'm rambling

![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my gosh, I'd be in tears if I saw that, I really would. Especially a sedan, flipping? Yikes, really not something you expect to see literally in your front yard. But take a deep breath and try to relax. Remember that 99% of seats are not used properly, and those are the kids most likely to be hurt (well, especially if their parents are drinking/on the phone/texting/otherwise severely distracted while driving). So it's extremely likely that that 2 yo was one of the wrong-used seats, and was worse off then s/he would have been in a properly used seat. Plus, they may just be following spinal injury procedure by strapping the kiddo down, it doesn't mean the injury was as severe as it looked, but just a preventive measure. I post carseatblog/car-seat.org tips of the day or other articles and recall notices I run across, just as part of my normal sharing on FB, and I get some good responses. I try not to target anyone in particular, but just 'get the word out' in a neutral way. And maybe I should post driving tips....like, uh, grab the emergency brake and put your car in neutral when your brakes don't work? Maybe we all need little driver refresher courses to keep our licenses....
