Default Stroller Reclines

Legaleagle clued me in to the cool digital level apps that you can get for your mobile device. I was going to measure the old G-luxe and new G-luxe because of a conversation that Purpelina and I were having about whether there is a difference. Unfortunately, my local stroller store no longer has the 2010 G-luxe on the floor, but here are a few recline depths if you're curious. If you want to let out your inner geek and measure the recline depths of your own strollers I'll add them to the list.

Maclaren Triumph - 150 degrees
Maclaren Quest - 150 degrees
2009 Uppababy G-luxe - ~150 degrees
2011 Uppababy G-luxe - 153 degrees
Cybex Topax - 156 degrees
Britax Blink - 160 degrees
Maclaren Albert Thurston Ryder - 164 degrees
Baby Jogger City Elite - 170 degrees.

I just got out my 2009 g-luxe and measured it at ~150, which was what was advertised for 2009 and still listed for 2011 on the uppa website: http://uppababy.com/products/product.php?id=171 (Though they list it as "120", I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same thing, aka 30 up from horizontal. High school geometry feels a long way away, LOL)

I'll check my other strollers later when it isn't freezing in my garage

Okay, I clearly have to think more about angles. Or not. LOL. At any rate, I guess we've solved the mystery. There is no change in the recline of the G-luxe over the different model years. Good to know!

I had way too much fun measuring all my stroller reclines with DS. Thanks for introducing us to this funny little tool.

Ooooh. I like this thread. I have assigned my husband the task of finding me an appropriate iphone app so I can measure my cybex topaz. Too bad I don't have the indie anymore, would love to know how reclined and how upright it measures.

Alright so the Cybex measured at 24 degrees on my husband's app. So that equates to 156 degrees.

Oh glad to know g-luxe still reclines to the same level. It is one of the main perks!

Oh, I hadn't thought that you could also measure how upright the seat was! What a great idea although I'm not sure my app could do it since once it gets too upright it wants to rotate the level indicator.

I am impressed with the Britax Blink recline.

Glad everyone's having fun.

You can use it upright (going to negative numbers or whatever), you may just need to do a bit of math to translate. Which for me often means I have to draw little pictures to figure it out but it works!

maybe that's another measurement we could add to our "true" measurements of strollers - weight, length, seat depth etc, especially compared to what the company website states.

While weight is often deceiving, if not completely off by a few pounds, statement like "triumph has multiple seat positions" is not completely correct either IMHO. Yes, triumph does have more than ONE seat position - TWO in total. I always thought that "multiple" means 3+.
Besides, people tend to think "multiple RECLINE", which is not true unfortunately...

Well, to be totally fair, the Triumph (like any stroller with a strap recline) does actually have an unlimited number of recline positions in between all the way reclined and all the way upright. Sure, they're not fixed intervals like the Quest recline positions, but you can set the Triumph seatback at any angle in between its full recline and its full upright position.
