Default amazon: rejecting a package?

how does that work out? do you just say 'no thanks' to the UPS man? and do I get the (return shipping) charged deducted from my refund once they issue the $$$ back on our CC? or if I actually do catch the UPS man do I pay nothing for rejecting it.

anyone know exactly how this works?

Why not just return the item? Amazon allows for ups pickup, and they even pay for it under some circumstances. Go to your account page and click 'return items' to see your options.

If it's a baby item, a lot of them have free returns. Otherwise you pay return shipping which is usually pretty reasonable. If you reject an item they still make you pay the shipping.

I did this the other day after calling to find out the best way to return it. It was less of a hassle for me to just leave a note on the front door with the UPS tracking # and that I needed to refuse the package than to let it be delivered and then have to go to a UPS store to return it. I forgot to cancel a S&S subscription and had reordered the week before but I had to go up a size on the diapers on my new order. oops

They told me there would be no additional charges and that as soon as they got the notification that it was being returned to them they would issue my refund.

I have refused diapers from amazon before, you just tell the UPS guy you don't want to accept, and I was refunded 100%. They didn't deduct for return s/h.

When I called to try to cancel an Amazon order (but was too late), Amazon's customer service told me to go ahead and refuse delivery to avoid having to pay shipping charges back. If the item is not a "free return" item or if you don't get special authorization to ship it back for free, you have to pay for return shipping if you take delivery/ownership of the item. If you refuse delivery, you do not have to pay for return shipping, and you get refunded the full amount you paid. By refusing delivery, you never even took possession of the item.

With Fed Ex, you can call and have their customer service instruct to "refuse delivery." And usually they will reroute it back without ever reaching you. You can refuse the package with UPS by leaving a note saying you are refusing it (include the tracking number). Or, if UPS leaves the package, you can drop it off at UPS and "refuse it" there.
