I have been buying my two older DC cheap sneakers for playing outside since they were little. That way I won't stress about the dirt/mud/puddles etc. The last 2 pair I bought were from Walmart (Starters brand) and they are terrible!! I am not sure if they are just poorly made or if my boys are being extra rough (we are talking about the front of the shoe literally wearing away- I am not kidding about them being rough!).
Anyway, any advice for inexpensive sneakers?

Stride Rite on sale is the best we have done.

I have found some great deals on kid's sneakers at Sears, and also at Marshall's. Land's End often has lots of sturdy kids shoes on their overstocks page as well.

I buy very, very gently used Stride Rites at consignment sales to use at backyard shoes. DD gets the pair first, then they move on to the boys. They all still look nearly new b/c she's just playing in grass, climbing, swinging, etc. Maybe after the boys wear them, they'll "age" iykwim.
