Default Any input on living in Davis, CA?

I have family who live in Roseville, CA, so I'm familiar with that general area of CA but my family knows nothing about Davis (other than knowing that UC-Davis is there, of course).

How is Davis for a family? What about crime, recreational opportunities, education, etc? DH got info about a job opportunity there so I'd appreciate any info about the town. Thanks!

It's a great town for families. Very safe for it's size.

The schools are fabulous.

The summers are hot, winters are foggy.

Very politically liberal community, also very intellectual/academic.

I grew up there, happy to answer specific questions here or via PM.

I grew up in neighboring Woodland, but lived in Davis for 4 yrs. from 2000 to 2004. I need to get back to work, but can go into LOTS of detail in a PM. I did post a bit about the area in one of CRL's Sacramento posts. Just search Sacramento in this forum.

Davis is wonderful! We have friends who left SF for Davis because of affordable housing, great schools and progressive town.

It's cycling heaven. My brother went there for college and stayed for years working. People bike everywhere. They even have bike cops.

One of my bff's brother went there for law school, and he said it's like a little Utopia. People move there for whatever reason, and never want to leave.

I went to college at Davis. 3 couples that we went to school with have moved back. They love it. We live in Sonoma County about 2 hours away from Davis and I would move back in a heartbeat. 2 of our friends work for the university. 1 is a professor and 1 works in admissions. It is a great family town with good schools. Check out Dos Coyotes for lunch/dinner when you are there.

Oh, I love Dos Coyotes. I swear we eat there at least twice every trip to Sacto. I wouldn't mind living in Davis either.
