Default NC BBBers, how are things down there?

Now that Irene is on her way north, how are things? Hoping you're all doing ok and that the flooding/power outages/damage isn't too bad. Up here in NOVA, it has been rainy but that's about it so far. I imagine the wind will pick up tonight, but I don't think it will hit too badly here. Hoping we don't lose power though. Maybe I should be more concerned, but I'm just not at the moment.

From a selfish perspective, I'm just hoping that all will be ok soon in NC. We were supposed to head down to OBX today for our first family vacation in a couple years, and last for a long time, as DH is just starting a new job in September and we have DC2 on the way. I'm still hoping that by Monday we'll be able to get down there, so fingers crossed that the flooding will subside and they'll lift the evacuation order. I'm going to be sooo sad if we miss out on this vacation. DS is already asking why we're not leaving for the beach.

More worried about you all now as it heads north!!!!

We left and drove 3 hours inland. Our neighbor texted that we lost a tree and we had some flooding in our yard and intermittent power outages. Otherwise, fine!

Are you making preparations up there?

Honestly, we haven't done much. We moved all our patio furniture and our grill into the garage. We have flashlights and candles and bottled water in the house. I live in a planned community and our trees aren't that big, our wires are underground, and we rarely lose power. We've never flooded before and we've lived here for 5 years through some major rains, though not like this I guess. I'm just not overly worried for us personally. There are probably others in our area who are more at risk than we are. I just hope people stay safe. But I wasn't one of those people in the supermarket buying 10 loafs of bread, IYKWIM. My big outing of the day was to get a pedicure.

Well, we're 3 hours inland, and we got some sprinkles off and on. Our super-tall-tree-filled neighborhood had lots of leaves down, and a few branches my 2 and 3yo boys moved to the curb. We wore our rainboots and anoraks for a walk around the block, pulled out the new playmobil pool, met up with some old neighbors who had moved to the coast, went to Costco for the Picardie glasses, and.....spent most of the day with amldaley and family at the museum!!! We were lucky to have such a fun day. Hope everyone else enjoys quality time with friends and family too.

We live in the same area you do and my hurricane preparation consisted of moving the car to the other side of the street so it wasn't under a tree.

I am about 1 1/2 hours from coast and it was rough here today. We lost two big trees which took out our fence and we will need a new roof. We are also on hour 13 with no power.

I hope you will be able to get down on Monday. I haven't heard much about the northern outer banks. My inlaws will be calling around tomorrow to check on things (my FIL moved his charter boat somewhere up above coralla to "hide") so I will post here if I hear anything.

Take care tonight!
