Default Quick, please help...generator and electricity question

We have been without power since sunday. Tonight everyone in the neighborhood got there power.....except us. We have been using our generator intermittently throughout the week. We have tried everything..turning the generator on and off, looking at the electrical box, nothing is tripped. I put in the call to the elevtric company, but of course it is all aotomated. Sorry for typos, am on dh phone. Are we supposed to do anything special for the house power to switch from generator to house? This is first time wirh generator, totally stumped. Oh, and a transfer box for the generator to plug into was installed by electrician

Our generator switches on and off automatically; it's the only one that we've had, so I don't know if other models work differently.

DH says that there might be a switch in the transfer box?

Q14. What happens when the Utility Power is restored?
A. When your utility power is restored, other lights and appliances in your home (not connected to generator power) will turn on, alerting you go to the transfer switch and flip the switches back to "LINE" mode and shut down your generator. Since those circuits using generator power are isolated from the rest of the house, there is no danger of back feeding the utility power.

So, if your non-generator items are back on, you need to flip the switch to turn off the generator and back to LINE. If your non-generator things aren't running, you still don't have power. Do you have a schematic showing what is hooked up to the generator and what isn't?
