Today was DD's first day of K. When I put her on the bus, I noticed barely any of the kids were buckled. When I was in school, I can't even remember there being seatbelts on the school bus. I whispered to DD that most kids don't buckle but that she needs to. Now I am a bit worried that she was not able to unbuckle it herself and got nervous but hopefully one of the older kids helped her out.
Do your kids buckle on the bus? Why does it seem like the norm around here is that the kids don't - I often see them hanging out the seats, sometimes standing...I don't get why it is allowed.

Some bus drivers run a much tighter shift than others. Ds1's K and grade 1 bus drivers were very strict but I don't know if everyone was buckled; I'm not sure beyond his k bus that there have been buckles. Since then the new driver lets things be really chaotic. I know they don't buckle- how could they with 3/ seat and other stuff I see going on? It doesn't bother me but if it did I would contact the bus company (not really the school, just go right to the source).

I am not even sure if there are seatbelts on the bus. For some reason I don't think so.

No, none of the kids on DS's bus use a seatbelt. I don't even think their bus even has seatbelts.

DS1 does not buckle. He told me that none of the other kids on the bus buckle up, either (he's a huge follower). I don't know if it's true or not, but when we had our kindergarten orientation, the head of our transportation office told us that statistically, kids are safer on buses without buckling up, but that the buckles are there for the kids' own comfort level. Like I said, not sure if it's true.

I don't think Dora's bus even has seatbelts. In fact, I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Our school buses don't have seatbelts and it's been an issue in the media lately about whether or not they are a good or bad thing.
