At the advice of the board, we bought a Roku a few months ago. We have Netflix streaming and LOOVVE it! We use it a lot. Especially with my brand new baby it is great to be able to put on a 20 minute, commercial free kid appropriate show for DS2 or alternately to put on a show for me in the middle of the night. Best part is one remote and I can switch between programs that I really like. While the latest antics of the company are ridiculous (and a bit sad!) I still LOVE their product and we're sticking with it!
We did free trial of Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime last month and while we appreciated the free 2 day shipping option of Amazon Prime, we didn't feel that either streaming service came close to providing the selection of available movies that Netflix had. We have such a long instant queue that we ended up dropping our mail service portion, figuring it will takes months if not years to burn through all the stuff we want to see. I'm just starting to wonder if I'm the only one who still likes Netflix?? |

We still like our Netflix streaming. We dropped the DVD in the mail tho when they raised their prices.
Does Roku stream in HD? |

We still really like Netflix streaming, yes. The kids' shows are great and we have really been buying fewer DVDs. Today DDs kind of flipped out that The Princess and the Frog is no longer available and I think Disney is going to disappear soon so that may be a problem. But we will probably still keep streaming while we are going to drop the discs (probably). They are supposed to be adding new content consistently which will be nice.

I'm so glad to hear as I'm thinking of getting a roku and dropping our cable tv, it's crazy to pay so much when I barely watch it. Will I still be able to watch Greys Anatomy or Desperate Housewives or do I have to wait until the next series? We do get Amazon Prime so can I combine Netflixs and Amazon or can I only do one or the other? Thanks for any advice/info

We like it too.
I will say that the interface on Tivo is sharply lacking. We kept the Roku to use with Netflix. MUCH better than the Tivo Netflix interface. |

You can totally do Amazon and Netflix! We did those AND Hulu Plus.
Our Roku device has an "HD" on it but we don't have that capacity so I'm not sure how it works. Our Roku cost about $60--JUST SLIGHTLY more than one month of cable! |

My DD1 loves Netflix streaming, I just don't love the price doubling of my Netflix plan and DD1 has watched very little Netflix streaming since she started kindergarten 6 weeks ago so I am not sure if I am going to keep it or not. If Amazon offers an equal amount of kid friendly streaming stuff then I might consider it but if not then I'll just keep paying for that instead, but I am still really undecided.'
We don't have an HDTV so no need for Roku or Apple TV yet. |
