Default For those of you who've bought from Next, were you charged a fee by your bank?

I placed my first order with Next Direct, and on the same day it posted to my account (yesterday) I also got an "international transaction fee" for $4+. I assume it's for the Next transaction. That's annoying! Especially since I'm returning the jacket, I wonder if I'll get another fee for the credit.

That is really odd. I would call my bank. I have made 4 or 5 orders from Next this year and never seen a fee like that on our bank.

Grr. So frustrating. But my bank is BofA, they are fee happy.

I've never had a fee for a Next purchase. You definitely bought from Next Direct right (that's their U.S. site)? They also have a Next U.K. site, but you would have known because prices would have been in pounds.

Capital One is one of the few CC companies who do not charge a foreign transaction fee. We switched over right before DH went overseas.

I bought from Next Direct USA (as the bank rep kept telling me) from the US website. They're refunding the charge (it wasn't much), but I'm trying to get clarification from them. This is what they posted told me in the online chat:

You: So the transaction could have been in dollars, but because they are located outside the US you automatically take out 3%?

Crish: Yes, that is correct. Bank of America assesses an international transaction fee for Debit Card transactions in foreign currency or in U.S. dollars with foreign merchants in the amount of 3% of the U.S. dollar amount of the transaction.

I'm trying to find out what this means. Does this mean if I buy airline tickets from British Airways, I'm out 3%? Or (gasp!) Boden??? Basically, I guess the answer is yes, but I want to know if that's "technically, yes, but we won't really" or "heck yeah, we're coming after that 3%!"

But I've bought from Boden many times, and had no fee. That's my confusion, Boden is just as British as Next is.

Get an American Express. The only time they actually charge a foreign transaction fee is if you buy something that really is from oversees, like if we order from Amazon.co.uk, which we frequently do actually. I've always used my Amex for Next Direct and never gotten that charge. Bofa seems bizarre in so many ways.

ETA: You know, Bofa just started charging certain new fees for debit card usage. I never use my debit card for anything other than taking money out of an ATM machine, so I haven't paid attention. but this could be a new thing that they've started. And if so, it might impact Boden too.

The new BofA debit fee hasn't started yet. I'm trying to get DH to agree to drop them. Today is just making me more determined!
