So glad Adam and Christina made up! Whew!
Crosby really stepped up to the plate with Jasmine. I'm proud of him. The whole Max situation was portrayed so well. At the end of the day he was just concerned w feeding his lizard and if Hattie would get in trouble for yelling. I think Hattie did a great job of expressing her feelings. Then at the end with Sara and Jason Ritter!!! What is his character name? They were adorable w the baby discussion. Finally, Zoe coming over in tears. That made me cry. Julia has her quirks, but she's a cool chick. There is a lot about her that I admire. Seems it won't be on next week... No coming attractions. Boo.

Totally agree on all counts. It made up for how annoyed I was a couple of episodes ago with the whole kissing the assistant thing.
But it did seem a little like Jasmine did not want to be let off the hook with Crosby - it seemed she was disappointed in the end, to me. The ONLY thing I found fault with in the Max scenario was that he had told them he had mapped the route out by bus and how else would he have gotten there? The first thing they should have told the police was that he planned to go by bus and they would have radioed the transit authority to have drivers check their busses. I hope things work out with Amber. I will be annoyed if she blows this job. I like how Julia's character is developing. She was sort of a neurotic, type A stereotype in the first couple of episodes. She seems more real now. And I can never remember Jason Ritter's characters name either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The part with Max was very stressful for me to watch. A recent survey found that up to 50% of children on the autism spectrum have had one or more incidents of "elopment". My DS is in that group and I can see him in a few years trying to do what Max did. It scares the crap out of me. We take LOTS of precautions, but still I worry about it a lot. I really liked how they showed the stress that siblings of a child with autism can face. The scene with Haddie and Adam afterwards was touching and so sad.

Good point. I can see how that would just not be heard or realized at all.

Saw this thread, remembered this was on my TIVO, and had to watch it right away. Yes, totally agree, this made me feel better about many of the threads in the show. I like that Julia is a hard-nosed type A at work but still soft on personal matters. I really hope they can made the adoption thing work out, I think the Dad does have to sign of in CA, but if Zoe is in, what are his other options? I think there will be more painful episodes about that before its resolved.
Loved it when Cristina admitted she was happy to be working. I felt that way 2 weeks ago when I went back, and it seems not PC to admit it. The babysitting part was cute too. Since the show takes place in my local area and I've in my mind mapped out the neighborhoods where each character lives, I can comment on the Max on public transit thing. The trip he made was only a few minutes, on one or two buses. He was probably off the bus and downtown before Haddie noticed him missing. But he was looking for the station in Berkeley, supposedly on Shattuck, and the police found him in Oakland. So that part is either inconsistent or he wandered on the street for a few miles. (Since he's high functioning I'm assuming he got off at the stop he intended.) Also, its really common for middle and high schoolers to take public transportation around here, many take it to school. So even a message to drivers to look out for a dark haired boy in a sweatshirt (and I've heard those before IRL) would not necessarily locate him.

Very interesting!!!!! I kind of got the impression that when he was asking for the Berkley station, he realized he was lost and was asking how to get back there. As for the transit radio thing, many states have "silver alerts" which were designed for the elderly in cases where alzheimers or dementia, etc leads them to wander and now some states use it for any person with special needs such as an autism. I would think recovering a missing kid would be high enough priority to warrant is whether there are lots of kids and teens on the bus or not. But then again, every place has their own systems and policies in place.

I would not assume this.

Sorry, wasn't trying to make an incorrect assumption. It just seemed to me that Max is good at following written directions, and he had a plan written out. So he would have followed the signs, but once interaction with people came in the mix he had trouble. But I'm sure the realities of autism are much more complicated than I can understand, not having dealt with kids like Max IRL.

gena-- i can't imagine what watching those max scenes would have been like for a parent with real concerns that their child might do something like that. i could barely watch them-- they made me EXTREMELY nervous. i was watching from the dvr , so i was SO tempted to fast forward. i felt terrible for the sister. i felt terrible for the dad. i felt mad at the mom (but what could she have done?? besides not gone to work? ack!!). and the poor kid.... of course, in the end he didn't seem to realize that he was in trouble? maybe that's just how they portrayed it, but ugh...the whole thing made me so uncomfortable. my heart was just aching for the whole family.
i sorta love julia....she's so rational. she's dealing with things so maturely even though it must be such a crushing disappointment. and then-- she just can't turn zoe away. i like that this show has multidimensional characters that develop-- even if it makes me uncomfortable. i felt like making casseroles for everyone last night at 11pm!
