They are tiny, but boy are they loved here. I'd rather have those than Barbies, really.

my daughter was giving her first polly at 2.75, but my mother to keep her occupied at her 60th birthday dinner. it was FAST love. since then our "collection" has exploded-- mostly those disney princess styled ones, but very soon after ACTUAL polly.

the big polly pocket set with "tons and tons of clothes" was one of 3 of dd's santa wishes this year (the other two were madeline paper dolls and "wegmans chocolate"...so yeah) last weekend my inlaws came to do christmas/birthday. one of the gifts MIL bought when she went on a toys r us spree? the same polly set santa bought.

we actually LOVE polly pockets because although they can come home big from the store? they store very small.

we also love calico and playmobil around here though. we have one kid, and aren't small piece adverse. *shrug* (our calico and playmobil hasn't stayed small though-- we have a manor (calico), and the church/pavillion and other larger things (playmobil)

Mwahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!
Make sure you get a set with the long sleeved dresses. It took me about 10 solid
Minutes of grim GRIM determination to get that @&$888:@&&:: thing over the doll's arms.

I'm a lover of Polly Pockets because I think it's a great toy for kids and we've been dealing with them for 5ish years. My nieces love them, my girls, my 8 year old male neighbor, even somewhat my 3 year old DS. I will, however, concede, that when DH first saw one the tiny shoes, he said "Are you *kidding* me?" in disbelief.

I will also concede that I solicited Polly Pocket management advice from an older mom. She said there are two camps: search and try to maintain every piece, and tell the kids to clean up and vacuum what remains.

I won't vacuum a piece deliberately, but I have developed a very laissez faire attitude about them. Even under the best of care, some of the clothes eventually rip. Some of the dolls regularly lose an arm or leg (my niece used to prefer the legless torso for play, actually). Accessories are lost. I don't sweat it. My kids still enjoy them, they're cheap and they are such a ready gift that there is always more, if you desire.

Trying to take the same attitude about Playmobil, which my kids have recently fallen in love with, but that's harder. It's more expensive and the props are a bigger part of the play, to me. But my kids don't seem to mind, so I should see it from their perspective.

Little Pet Shop ranks right up there. Someone gave DD1 a small set of hamsters? Gerbils? Aliens? Not sure what they are. They came 3 to a set in this little carry case along with a plastic water container and 3 pieces of "food." The problem is the carry case has these cut outs in each of the 3 sections that hold the pet so the little food and water fall right back out of the case every.single.time.

HATE THEM! We are losing them slowly. Every time I see pieces laying around, they get tossed. Maybe with all the new cool Chanukah toys coming, I will just dump the whole set!

ETA: Yup! We have Little Pet Shop too and are slowly "losing" them also.

any suggestions of a good replacement toy? dd has just 2 of the cinderella with 3 dresses, and that is enough to drive me nuts!

Yes, I can't stand those things!! Ironically, I love playmobil, which is equally annoying but way cooler, IMO.

I refuse to buy the Polly Pockets they have now because the ones that my sister had 20 yrs. ago were soo much cuter and I don't remember them having as many parts.

CRL, I remember my brother had a fair amount of Playmobil and while they are nice and well made toys I stepped on the ones with crowns or jagged edge hair (I think he had a knight set) a few times and the hair was painful for my feet. OUCH! Legos are kind of the same too.

I never thought I would be happy that my girls go to full time daycare and living in a small house because it has seriously limited the number of toys we've had in our house as I figure they have all the toys they need at daycare.
