Default Update-cut her hair- Any advice on how to save this doll's hair

Update - Whew, we have a very different looking doll at this point. I tried may of the ideas suggested, and I have to say the pinterest idea that Melanie linked to helped to get out lots of the tangles. The hair still looked bad, though, especially the bottom of it, so I cut it. If anyone every attempts this, I have to say, cut way longer than you mean it to end up. I thought I was cutting a little longer than we wanted (to allow for errors and evening out), but in truth the long, thick hair was weighing the top portion down so when I cut it ended up being way shorter than what I thought based on where I cut.

The style looks good on the doll, although it makes her look "older" and even changes the general look off her face (just like a real person!). Dd expressed a little disappoinment it came out so short, but let me know she appreciated my work and she is happy with it. I really wish we had the doll we started out with, but this is an improvement over the middle stage.

If only I could find glasses that fit this doll. The glasses she came with broke on the first day, and I believe the face is a little smaller than the AG dolls, so I dont think those glasses would work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I got dd this doll for Chanukah/

http://www.amazon.com/BFC-Ink-Large-...4966336&sr=8-2

We were both thrilled with the doll, but after only a short time of playing with her, the doll's hair frizzed and knotted up something awful. I researched on-line, but most info is about AG doll's hair. I did find some things suggesting using a wig brush, washing with gentle shampoo and conditioner, followed by fabric softener. Then sometimes use a fabric steamer.

First I bought a wig brush and tried just using detangler (also recommended on some sites). Not getting anything done. So I washed it in just conditioner (would have used fabric softener, but I dont have any. I brushed it out with the wig brush, which took forever. It looks slightly better, but still pretty bad. I dont own fabric steamer and dont know if that would do the trick. Dd wants to cut the hair, and I am leaning towards finding someone who could help us do this, as it is now very long (it had some wave to it before) and the bottom does seem to be particularly thick and more unmanageable...any suggestions on what to do?

AG doll hair is a very special type of hair ($$) and those instructions (downy dunk) are specifically for that hair though I guess it wouldn't hurt to try if you can get some fabric softener.

If the doll hair is anything like the Target One Generation doll hair, I think you are out of luck. The target doll hair was nasty out of the package and there really was nothing that could make it any better.

Good luck. Maybe if nothing else works you can give her a trim!

eta" this is a review for her on the wal-mart site...
I now have the entire BFC series. All of them are good deals for the price. I love the articulation! I hate their shoes! And their hair?! Calista's hair was very gently finger combed and that's all! If you try to use the brush on any of them, you wind up with a mess. Gianna's hair was set twice, once with only doll hair conditioner to moisten it; and again with doll hair setting lotion. Both times the curl fell out within 15 minutes! However, the hair was no longer flyaway or frizzy. I put it up in dog ears. Addison's hair is currently up in curlers after a treatment with ArmorAll. I could tell the "hair" was taming down just putting it on! I have replaced all of their shoes with "real" ones. They are hard to fit because the lower heel sticks out at a sharper angle than most dolls. I would recommend these dolls to tweenagers, collectors, and anyone who is a doll lover. They are NOT suitable for 6-9 year olds!

Fabric softener is what I have heard too. I am super annoyed with some Tangled dolls the girls got. Their hair was RIDICULOUS within hours. I am a knot genius thanks to the girls hair but I don't think even I could do anything in this case. I did see something on pinterest, I will see if I can find it.

ETA: Here is what I saw on Pinterest.

I have no idea what kind of hair your doll has, but I had a problem with my very old My Little Ponies. I found this tutorial: http://www.mlptp.net/forums/mlp-disc...lete-pics.html

I don't know if it will help you or not, but I thought I'd share just in case. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the great replies and great resources/ideas. Most of the reviews for this doll on amazon where so positive. I am going to see if someone can help me give this doll a trim, as I have a hard time cutting a straight line, but the bottom of her hair does seem even thicker/less manageable so I hope that will help. I will then try the ideas given above. I think we may get it back to looking okay at best, but dd won't be able to play with the hair. Its really a shame because she is a great doll for my dd in many other ways.

I'm glad you got useable results. We have the Rapunzel doll linked to and I think I'll try that with her!
