Default benign lump removed?

Has anyone had a benign lump in the breast removed? I have a small 1.5 cm lump in my breast that is bothering me -- had it ultrasounded and mamogramed today and still nothing to worry about per se but it bugs me -- sometimes it hurts. I am doing a surgical consult soon to talk about having day surgery to remove it. Anyone BTDT?

TIA

I had a fibroadenoma removed when I was 19 -- so over 10 years ago. Fibroadenomas are fairly common in younger women. It never was painful, but was rather large (3-4 cm, I think). I had outpatient surgery and it did not take me long at all to recover. You should have no trouble. Did they have any idea what type of lump it is?

Positive thoughts your way so this gets resolved quickly.

Yep, about 9 years ago I had a fibrous cyst removed. It was thought to be benign after needle biopsy but removal was still recommended in case there were other cells lurking in there. I had outpt. surgery under general anesthesia. I don't recall any issues with recovery, and my surgeon shaped my scar to follow the curve of my breast. Today it is no more noticeable than one of the strech marks in the same area!

My most memorable moment w/r to this experience, other than the initial obvious fear, was that when I had my surgical consult, the surgeon had a (male) med student with him and asked if he could be present. I said yes. The surgeon palpated the lump in my breast and then invited the med student to do so, without waiting for a reaction from me. At the time I was but I didn't say anything!
