Default has anyone made a barbie cake?

I want to make a barbie cake for DDs birthday. She is into princesses so I want to make it a princess. I have a pampered chef batter bowl and found a recipe on Allrecipes. Should I do a test run? We aren't big dessert eaters so if I don't have to do test run, I would rather not so it doesn't go to waste. But I hate to do it without trying it first and have trouble for the actual party. Any BTDT and advice?

The hard part is the frosting. If you have good frosting skills I think you are OK if not I would start by just making up a batch of frosting and practicing the little starts on a sheet of parchment paper.
