Default Casual restaurants in Savannah...

I'm taking my 10 year old daughter to Savannah, Georgia at the
end of April for a fun Girl Scout weekend. My sister is flying in
from Texas and meeting us there!

Need some recommendations for casual restaurants for lunch
and dinner!! Help!

We'll probably do The Pirate's House for lunch one day.

Maybe Casbah for dinner one night and Lady & Sons on another night.

What else?

Lady & Sons has an interesting reservation policy. You have to show up in person at the podium (starting at 9:30am) to give your name for a lunch or dinner time.

http://ladyandsons.com/index.php/res.../reservations/

We tried one time and all the times were filled up by 11:00 when we finally got there.

IME, not too hard to get in there for lunch. They do a lunch buffett in addition to the menu and the place is 3 levels, so lots of folks in a short time. We put in our names and were told how long of a wait we had, then we strolled around the square while we waited and just showed back up at our time. Both times we have been was on Saturday. Seems that it almost works to your advantage to wait until the rush dies down a bit.

My husband is a fan of lunches at Mrs. Wilkes, that does involve standing in line for some good southern food.

Mellow Mushroom on Liberty is great - love the pizza, the service in the Savannah location was not super. J. Christopher was good too. I would consider Mrs. Wilkes (cash only!) a must do, but Lady & Sons is not good.

The best is The Crab Shack which is just over on Tybee!!!! My absolute favorite of anything in SAV. It has great fun outdoor atmosphere!

The food at the Pirate's House is not very good lately and is really overpriced. That said, my kids still like going there because of the pirate hat place mats and the Jack Sparrow look alike that roams around on weekends.

I prefer Mrs. Wilkes to Lady & Sons but the food is fairly similar. Mrs. Wilkes is communal dining, so you line up at sit at a large table with whoever else is in line with you.

Casbah is fun and the food is pretty good, too.

For casual chain restaurants, Mellow Mushroom, 5 Guys and Roly Poly are all good. Service at Mellow Mushroom is really hit or miss. I think most of the staff is stoned.

For something a little fancier you may want to look at SOHO South Cafe on Liberty. It is a combination funky art gallery and restaurant with great food and atmosphere.

For sweet treats try Leopold's Ice Cream on Broughton, Melting Pot for chocolate fondue, or Savannah Candy Kitchen or River Street Sweets (both on River Street).

I live in SAV so feel free to ask any specific questions. Hope you have a fun trip!
