When I was pregnant with our daughter we spent several hundred dollars on a nice, wide, deep Dutalier glider that fit my 6 ft. husband (most of the gliders at BRU were much too small). It has held up poorly--hubby had to drill new holes for the screws that held the back of the chair in place (the old ones were stripped) and now the seat is coming apart.
So we're thinking that maybe a solid wood rocker would be a better choice this time around. Unfortunately, we can't find one! The ones at Cracker Barrel are too narrow for hubby and a I literally can't think of another place in town I've seen them. The baby stores only sell gliders and the furniture stores didn't sell either style, at least when I was pregnant in 2009. Our other choice is a "plus-size" glider from the Brylane catalog hubby got in the mail--the frame is metal, so it might hold up better. Any thoughts? |

Two suggestions...if you want wood, see if there's an "all-wood" or Amish store in your area. There's been a store like this in most of the (albeit larger) cities I've lived in, with lots of rocking chair options and customization options. I find these stores don't come up often if you're just searching for furniture stores, so be sure to include "wood/amish/unfinished" or things like that in the search.
Also, if you just want a better constructed rocker, you could also consider getting a high-quality recliner that rocks. Good luck!

Thank you! I'm skeptical that a recliner that rocks would actually fit around the bend in our stairs.
(Our big blue chair that's in the living room was *supposed* to go upstairs....) But I will search for an Amish store, thank you.
