Default **Update** WWYD? eBay item return question

Updated in # 11

I purchased an item on eBay that I was not satisfied with when it arrived. It has staining on it which is not apparent in the photo and is not even mentioned in the description. The seller does say that they accept returns. I contacted the seller through eBay 2 days ago, but I have not gotten a response. I am wondering if I should wait for a response or go ahead and mail the item back. DH thinks I should just take photos of it and mail it back today and not wait for a response from the seller. BTW, it is not clothing and the item cost $66.00 plus shipping (now, both ways). Would you mail back today or wait for a response from the seller?

I would not just mail it. I'd either wait on a response or go through ebay or paypal as an item not as described.

Even if they say they don't take returns if an item is not as described you should be able to get your money back but I wouldn't just send it back without some kind of claim or acknowledgment.

Definitely wait for the seller unless they don't respond in a few more days...you can check their id and see if they are doing any buying/leaving feedback etc.

They may want you to return it a certain way, a good seller will refund shipping both ways as the item is SNAD (signficiantly not as described).

When you contact the seller if you can get good pictures of the stains.

Are you wanting to return it outright? Occasionally a seller may refund part of the price if you want to keep it, but most sellers are hesitant to do this as many buyers are "fishing" for a partial refund, which isn't the case but it makes them suspicious, although I'd think it's more for clothing.

Seller states in their listing that they accept returns, but buyer has to pay shipping. Would that not be the case if the item is not as described or can I get them to pay the return shipping?

Yes, I want to return it outright. It is an AG doll and she has pink stains on one side of her head (cleverly hidden in the photo) and her hair has pink streaks dyed into it - not apparent in the photo, but definitely noticeable IRL, and not mentioned in the description. There are also large pink stains on the scalp, presumably from the coloring of the hair. I know DD would not be happy with a stained up doll! So aggravating because I am now out shipping and get nothing from it when I was trying to save money. I contacted the seller to make sure it was a smoke free home and to ask if the limbs were tight, doll could stand, etc. From now on, I will make sure to ask about stains, rips, tears, etc!

If they did not (or rather hid the flaws) disclose the flaws you will probably win any paypal dispute.

Does the listing give a condition for the doll? I think that the seller should have mentioned the pink hair and the other flaws, it seems like they were trying to get away with this and were hoping the buyer woudn't bother trying to return.

You should not have to pay return shipping in this case as the seller did not identify the flaws.

Now if the listing mentions that the doll is in "play" condition or something like that it might be different story.

IT's the seller from Cummings, GA right? You asked specific questions and she still never disclosed the pink hair....you will get all your money back as the seller clearly did not disclose those flaws, how they could have missed it I don't get as they sell lots of AG stuff and have good feedback.

Don't return it!

You're a buyer. Ebay/PayPal skew things heavily in your favor. Just file a dispute with eBay or PayPal. They're likely to refund your money without you having to send anything back.

No, different seller. They do not sell a lot of AG stuff, but their feedback was all really good. I emailed seller again asking for name and address, hoping that would get a response (even though I had already looked up that info). I got this response: "OK" with their info for return. I'm rather perturbed and am thinking I may dispute it and not be out another $10 or more for returning the item. I'd have to send it certified to make sure they sign for it and can't say I didn't return it, so that would cost more. Also, I will be depending on them to refund my money. If I go through eBay, then I KNOW I will get my money back.

Boy they aren't being very helpful are they....I'd make sure you are going to be refunded the shipping, you shouldn't have to pay for shipping when the item was SNAD, it would seem that you are going to have to file a SNAD claim through ebay unless the seller agrees to refund shipping both ways...they can print out a return shipping label that they pay for and send that to you and then you can return it to them and hope they refund your money...but I'm not thinking they're that interested.
