Default PT-ing Books - for DD and for Me

Any recommendations on girls' potty-training picture books for my DD?

We are progressing past the "just interested" phase of potty-ing and are starting to get into the "big girls use the potty, Mama" phase of potty-ing, with DD asking a bit more consistently to use the potty and actually using it for both pee and flatus. (No poop on the potty yet, but she asked to use and peed on the big potty the other night; I was over the moon. DH was watching hockey.)

Anyway, since I've got her attention, or she's got mine, I'd like to get a picture book about potty learning.

I picked up a copy of 'Once Upon a Potty' and just didn't connect with the language they use for urination & defecation. (I found their terms to be far too cutesy, almost like listening to my sister and my paternal grandmother talk about needing to "tinkle" or "go twosies" ... um, no, thanks.)

Then I saw one called 'Big Girls Use the Potty' at Target, which looked better, but I passed on it because we didn't really "need" it at the time ... so I got an Elmo coloring book (with sticker chart) instead.

I guess for both of us to learn/communicate about pottying, I have a "potty dance" video (free) from Huggies somewhere in the house that I have yet to watch, but I find most of Huggies' stuff to be fairly inoffensive.

Any other tips/recommendations for DD?

How about for me? What kinds of resources are there out there in the vast internets (or otherwise) that would help me not be too high-pressure in helping DD in potty learning?

Thanks in advance!

A Potty for Me by Karen Katz was a miracle worker in our home. DD now reads it to ds, who loves it also.

I got the book POTTY by Leslie Patricelli for my DD around 16m. She still loves it and it one month older than your DD. It is cute, gender neutral, and can be used for my son. Not too many words so you can use it for a younger kid too. Simple and to the point.

"Time to Pee", by Mo Willems. We checked a bunch of potty books out of the library. I got "Potty Time for Boys" at TJMaxx.

We liked Once Upon a Potty, as well as the Potty Time movie, checked out from the library.
We just changed the words in Once Upon a Potty to the ones we use.

Thanks everybody!

I started with the recommendation in the 1st reply and found "Princess Potty" and "Big Girls Use the Potty"

DD has really taken to "Princess Potty" and, despite it being all pink and sparkly, I kind of like it too.

I will check out the "Potty Time" DVD and "Time to Pee" (I have a weakness for Mo Willems) next.

Any rec's on resources for parents? I'm encouraging but I don't want to cross the line into "pushy" and scare her off!

Liz, how is it going? Our DD's are the same age and we are in the same boat... she's interested but I don't want to be too pushy. I've been reading old threads here on the board to get more advice.

We have been telling our DD for a few weeks that when she finally pooped on the potty that we'd give her a sticker book (hadn't used stickers before for anything) and today she did it for the first time... she was very excited about the sticker book so hopefully we're on to something with reserving the stickers for this special occassion. We'll see if she keeps it up.

We had some big successes last weekend - she asked to go potty before bed on Friday night and then when she woke up on Saturday, but then didn't want anything to do with the potty the rest of the time.

I have a sticker chart hanging on our bathroom door, a supply of stepstools and potty seat inserts and two Bjorn potty chairs in case she changes her mind.

I'll have a lot more time starting on Sunday, so if it's nice out, I was thinking I'd try a no-pants or naked day to see how she does.

On the plus side, she LOVES wearing her cotton undies. She just has to respond to her body's signals that she needs to go.

My DD is still in her crib and probably will be a while since she sleeps well and doesn't show any sign of crawling out... and we have a monitor in her room. I told her in the mornings that if she needs to go to call out "Momma, I need to go to the bathroom" and that I'd come running. I'm not sure how good of an idea that was because now she doesn't play happily in her crib for a few minutes while I'm waking up... I think she's now got me wrapped around her finger and springing out of bed as fast as I can because every morning she says those words. LOL

I need to put together some sort of sticker chart too because I think she'd like the visual rewards. Do you just put a sticker on it every time she goes? I got her some undies too and she's super excited about them but we haven't put them on yet... I told her they are for after she learns to start pooping in the potty. I'm hoping they will entice her!

I bought a pack of Sesame Street stickers from the dollar spot at Target.

They're all different sizes.

DD gets a small sticker for asking & sitting on the potty ("trying" to go potty) and a big sticker for when she asks & something happens ("going" potty)

She pointed to her sticker chart the other day, smiled & chatted, but hasn't been patient enough to let anything happen. It's OK. I'm thrilled that she's making the connection.

We did a few hours' diaper-free yesterday ... and she pooped on the floor. (She also pooped on the floor on Saturday just as I needed to leave for the train to the City, but, before she did, she'd sat on the potty chair, so I think she recognizes the urge to go, but doesn't quite have the idea.)

We're making progress, I think.

She is still really proud to wear her cotton undies even if she doesn't always make it to the potty in time. You may want to let your DD try wearing hers just so she understands the difference between big-girl panties & diapers - some kids need that kind of physical reinforcement. (Mine seems to!)
