Default Should children's liquid Ibuprofen be clumpy?

Sisi has the croup reallly bad right now with a fever. She's just miserable. So, I opened a brand new bottle of Up and Up brand Children's Ibuprofen, went to pour it and it was clumpy. Thicker clumps of it started to plop into the little medicine cup as I poured it. This happened even after I had shaken it. I've never had that happen before and wondered if there was something wrong with the bottle. I decided not to give it to her and gave her some of her brother's Jr. chewables instead.

Is this normal? Anyone know?

I don't think it's normal. I would not give that to a child either, and I say this as someone who worked in quality assurance for a big Pharma Company a few years back. It could be completely harmless, but you can't be sure it has a uniform concentration if it has clumps that won't dissolve.

I would say no. I'd err on the side of caution and not give it (like you did). Good thing you had a backup.

I agree, not normal, and I would not give it.

Agree w/PPs, do not give. Take it back to Target, that is not at all normal for any ibuprofen formulation.

we had a bottle ibuprofen that looked clumpy. it was left in the car overnight in the winter. I attributed it's funky texture to freezing and defrosting, but I ended up throwing it away.

It is usually a little grainy but not clumpy. I would be concerned about inconsistent dosing. You can always split the Junior tablet if necessary but it may be that one tablet is the equivalent dose.

Not normal. After DS's tonsillectomy we went through about 4 bottles of ibuprofen including that brand and none were clumpy. I'd return it.
