This is one area I haven't tried with DD yet. Any tips? I would like to incorporate some fish into her diet. She's okay with ground meats (beef/turkey/chicken/pork)but won't eat meat that is not ground. I am assuming it is a texture thing?
Any tips, recipes?

I would start with salmon...my DS likes it, just grilled, roasted or in a salmon loaf that I make.

I second trying salmon. DD is a month behind yours and has been having fish since around 12 months, she loves it. I steam it over some sauteed veggies or bake it. She has had other types of fish and did well.
I'd reccoment trying it steamed with veggies first as it is infused with their flavors and the fish taste is not as strong for a beginner. I sautee some zuchini, yellow squash, bell peppers and tomatoes for about 3-5 minutes (depending on how thinly veggies are cut) with a bit of salt, pepper & other herbs/spices, then place a piece of salmon over the vegetables, cover and cook on medium low heat for 10-15 minutes until the fish is done.

Here is my salmon loaf recipe...very kid friendly. I usually make 2 and freeze one.
RECIPE FOR SALMON LOAF * 1 lb. fresh salmon (baked at 375 for 12-15 minutes until flaky) or 2 cups canned salmon, drained * ½ cup plain bread crumbs * 2 Tbs. canola oil * 2 eggs, well beaten * 1/4 cup Dijon mustard * 1/4 cup fat free sour cream * 2 Tbs. minced onion * 2 Tbs. chopped fresh parsley * 1 tsp. Worchestershire sauce * ½ tsp. salt * Heat oven to 375. *Coat a 1-quart loaf plan with canola spray (Pam) and set aside. *In a large bowl, combine ingredients with hands or large wooden spoon. *Press into loaf pan. *Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. *Let sit for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. *

I think salmon and other kinds of white fish (cod) are easy to introduce to kids. My kids have always loved fish, esp if it's grilled. Fish chowder is yummy too!

I would go with a white fish ... sometimes Salmon can be well "fishy". I would suggest something like Halibut or Cod or Tilapia. My boys like fried fish (both the cod and the halibut from the freezer section at Trader Joes) fish n chips style. DS2 loves fish in all forms ... sushi, fried, baked, BBQ'd.
if you do Salmon I would suggest maybe cooking it in the oven in some teriyaki marinade (if you kiddo likes teriyaki... mine loves it). I love Salmon with BBQ sauce. There is a restaurant near up that cooks it on plank and puts the BBQ sauce over the top (and I think stick it under the broiler for a bit) it is SO yummy! |

My DC isn't a fan of salmon - I think because it's so fishy-tasting. I'd try a white fish first.
