My DH was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and has been extra irritable giving up most carbs so I want to find a good gluten free cookbook for him. Any recommendations?

We don't do gluten-free, but have some friends who are gluten/dairy free. I know you're just doing gluten-free, but I've heard really great things about this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cooking-Isaiah.../dp/1606521659.

There's one that just came out for "sensitive" eaters called 'The Intolerant Gourmet':
http://www.amazon.com/The-Intolerant...pd_sim_sbs_b_2 One of the reviews warns that there's not much in the way of desserts that are baked, but it's otherwise decent.

Online resources for free recipes (I hate spending $ on what I can get for free):
http://www.adventuresofaglutenfreemom.com/ http://glutenfreeeasily.com/ http://www.elanaspantry.com/ http://www.glutenfreediva.com/ http://delightglutenfree.com/recipes http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/ http://glutenfreegirl.com/ (she does have highly rated recipe books) I've made recipes from all the above. I also will google "insert recipe name" and gluten free and find replacement recipes for my old favorites. Just the other day DH made a GF rhubarb crisp from a recipe he found googling. It was amazing! Just a few other thoughts to share for a newly diagnosed person, and those around him/her: 1. He will go through gluten withdrawal. It will make him feel horrible and be super irritable. Some people report feeling like the have the flu for 2-3wks. Sometimes that makes adjusting to the diet changes even more difficult. Just know that it sometimes gets worse before it gets better. 2. In the first few months it is probably best to eat "clean". Lots of naturally GF foods...veggies, fruit, meat, nuts. No recipes needed. Many of the highly processes GF substitutes (breads, cakes, cookies, pasta, etc) can be difficult for a healing gut to digest. Not too mention that some people just don't tolerate sorghum, guar gum, xanthan, etc and so think they aren't improving on a GF diet when it's really all these new GF foods causing the issue. 3. Help him ID the things he loves that he can still have and allow himself to indulge a bit. For me, that was Reese's PB Cups (the regular size, the holiday kind are not GF), Fritos, many of my fav ice cream flavors, and wine. It helped me to accept that I wasn't giving up everything. Good luck to the both of you. It will get easier.
