Default Professional knife sharpening?

Has anyone ever sent their knives out to get professional sharpening? How did it work? How long did it take? How much? I'm thinking of doing this for DH because he's the cook and complains about the knifes (Wustoff, good ones!).

TIA!

I have. I think it was a week. Call the place you are sending to in advance. Where we dropped the knives, they outsource, and so there was a good day for drop off and pick up to keep the time short. We may have done the knives in two bunches so we wouldn't be without at least one good knife. We loved it. I am sure we will do it again soon.

I've done it a few times. Sur la Table does it (or at least the one in LA near me did). It took a week at most. Crate and Barrel had a Wusthof demo that you could pre-register for free knife sharpening, I was all over that! I'd be careful about where you take them, some places use tools that aren't good for knives, I'd make sure it's someplace that works with knives.

Sur La Table does it every few months, as do many higher end kitchenware shops like Williams Sonoma. I've not had mine done at SLT, but I keep meaning to.

DH found a gentleman nearby who sharpened knives at a reasonable rate as well, but he hasn't taken them out in a while. If their business is slow, you may get your knives back same-day.

One of my friends told me that Kroger's butcher dept will do this for free. I have never tried it before and don't really trust them to do my henkels, but it may be worth a shot...
