I've been loving Spreadable Butter, thinking "it's just butter mixed with oil to make it easier to spread when cold!" This Fooducate post has turned me against it. Turns out, it uses milk with rBGH growth hormones, and with GMO rapeseed.
http://blog.fooducate.com/tag/rbgh/ This article only mentioned the Land o Lakes spread. I have a similar Olivio product in my fridge, and it does not contain that "rbgh free" label most milks do these days. So, I am going on the assumption it is not growth hormone free. I'll probably finish up the tub I have, but I won't buy again. It's too bad because I really like the stuff.

We bought a tub of Kerrygold spreadable from Costco and they use milk from cows that are free from growth hormones. They also don't add oil. http://kerrygoldusa.com/press-room/c...wo-New-Butters

I always assume that all dairy unless otherwise labeled contains hormones. And all canola oil unless organic or from WF or TJS brand is GMO. So basically, if it comes from the grocery store and is not specially labeled, assume it contains these things.
ETA: that doesn't automatically mean it does contain hormones or GMOs but I assume it's guilty unless I know otherwise. Kerrygold does not use routine antibiotics either and comes from grassed cows on Spring pastures Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We're using Kerry Gold spreadable butter right now. I'm curious as to what the difference is between that and the butter in blocks.

I make my own using a recipe from Tosca Reno's Eat Clean book. Just whirl one part softened butter with one part olive oil in the food processor.

Butter bell stores butter on the counter and keeps it spreadable without spoilage (so says the amazon info). I don't have one, but they look pretty neat.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been using the land 'o lakes with olive oil. The base commissary sells a German one so I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope that one is better.
