Default What are your favorite layette brands?

So I have absolutely nothing for this baby. That makes me nervous. Making me even more nervous is the fact that it is our custom not to buy anything for the baby until it is here. So I need to pick things out ahead of time. I'm probably going to be online ordering things while I'm still in recovery. In any case, I want to know what your favorite clothing brands/blanket (swaddling and receiving) brands/and anything else you might think is helpful. This way I can pick everything out ahead of time. Even though I know I will probably end up sending a friend to pick up some emergency stuff (or barring that, sending my husband to the hospital gift shop), I really want something nice for this one. I might as well. Fifth babies aren't usually so lucky as to get all new things. Anyone?

I like and have bought for this new boy coming in 3 weeks the following
- carters for basics onesis, gowns etc, typical layette sets
- swaddling in summer aden and anais, swaddles and sleep sacks from halo as they grow
- Receiving blankets, not a fan of flannel ones or anything thin. I like nice substanial thick blankets, cant think of any brands, but I picked them up at target and good ones from nordstrom and friends are knitting some
- pilot caps & mocs from hanna
- coming home outfit...haven't got anything yet, but am tired and cant walk thru stores anymore, will probably have DH buy what he likes this time.
- new crib sheets and co-sleeper sheets, waterproof pads from target/bru
- and ofcourse whatever catches my fancy as i walk thru stores!

Hospital generally stocks me up with enough binkies, disposable bottles, diapers etc

I love the Little Giraffe blankets. The rest of the stuff I bought is about the same as PP's.

Carter's for Layette basics- onsies, sleepers, etc.

Bedding: Carters and Koala baby sheets/blankets

For swaddling- I used some of the big hospital blankets- that are like 45 by 45 inch- the smaller receiving blankets always came undone.

Also really liked the cotton Halo sleep sacs.....

I love Hanna stuff- I put a pilot cap and mocs on my registry- for DD #2- since she will have to wear big sister's hand me downs! Also some kind of coming home outfit.

With DD2, I loved loved loved:
Under the Nile for kimono onesies, pants
Petit Bateau sleepers and hats
Zutano's Itzy Bitzy for the first days when she was so tiny that even NB size was too big
Kissy Kissy - buttery soft sleepers, hats and blankets
Hanna Andersson basics - zippers, onesies, socks, hats
And my old reliable favorite: Carters

Carters really holds its own among layette brands at a fraction of the cost. I much prefer the Carters store items to the special makes for Target or Costco. They know how to size and style layette clothing so it is simple and practical for easy diaper changes and sleepy parents. Both DDs lived in their sleep and play's and onesies. I truly think Carters can hold its own against the best layette brands! That said, I adored our Under the Nile and Petit Bateau and think they are worth the splurge for a few items.

ETA We were gifted Aden and Anais swaddling blankets which got hardly any use as swaddlers (they were handy for the stroller, especially as a sun shield). Our fave swaddlers were the thin flannel cotton receiving blankets we bought from Carters for $10 for DD1 4 years previously, and they were as useful the second time around. I do love the Swanky Blanky and Barefoot Dreams chenille blankets we got as gifts that are now being used by DD2 at the age of 2.

Carter's (from store or dept. store), and Baby Gap for every day wear. Carter's sleep n plays were great. For dressy I liked Kissy Kissy, or Carter's. Kick me out of the Hanna Andersson fan club, but I didn't care for HA until at least size 70 (was about 9 mos. old for DD2) . I liked Gymboree starting at around 3 months. If I had a boy I probably would have stuck mainly with Carter's and Baby Gap though most of the first year.

Little Me blankets are cute. We didn't get the A&A blankets until DD2 was 6 mos. old. I personally would thought they were too much

Tiny Hannas didn't work well for my skinny babies. Neither DD could fit into size 50 before 6 weeks anyway!

Exceptions: best baby socks!!! SO fabulous. The floppy sunhats and l/s onesies are great too; the onesies last a long long time because of the double row of snaps. Oh, and the best baby fleece jacket in 60 got a lot of us. Never mind, I guess I did like some things after all!
