Default might have baby a little early...preemie or NB

I am 36 weeks and doc says i may go in the next week. If that does happen i have no idea if i will need preemie clothing or not. I mean 36/37 weeks doesn't seem THAT early but in terms of clothing, would he just wear newborn sizes longer ? I plan to get a few more NB sized things because i really didn't buy too much in that size (6 sleepers and 7 onesies and 4 pairs of cotton pants). I have a TON in 0-3 but if he is born at 36/37 weeks i imagine he won't wear those for awhile.

you can always get by with wearing slightly big clothes. i wouldn't buy preemie stuff. if he's swimming in the NB stuff, you can always send someone out to pick up some smaller things.

I agree. I'd buy NB size and then if you find you need preemie clothes send someone out to get them for you. DS came at 35 weeks and by the time we left the nicu two weeks later he had a full preemie sized wardrobe since so many people bought us preemie clothes! Plus they are in them for such a short time (when they are born so close to term) it is better not to overdo it with buying preemie, IMO.

My 35-weeker weighed 7 lbs 1 oz so there was no need for any preemie clothes! He just swam in the newborn ones for a few weeks!

I'd wait on the preemie clothes too. Worst case scenario you'll just need to send someone out to pick up some sleepers or gowns.

If you have any baby clothes consignment stores nearby whoever shops might find a lot of tiny clothing there. It seems like there's a lot of used baby clothing available in the tiny sizes with tags still attached because newborns fly through sizes so quickly.

Good luck!

my DD was born at 35 weeks weighing 6 lbs 1 oz. Most preemie clothes for under 6 lbs, so yeah, i'd probably skip buying a lot of it.

I did buy Zutano Itzy Bitzy clothes (that is 4-9 lbs) that she grew out of basically 3 weeks after getting out of the NICU. I bought it bc it was realy adorable and i liked the kimono style that allowed for wires/leads used in NICU

My dd1 born at 39 weeks was 5lbs 14oz. We didn't have any preemie clothes. The newborn clothes just lasted a bit longer. I agree with pp, just go with the newborn and if you do need preemie someone, I'm sure, would love to go shopping once the baby is here.

thanks everyone! I'll probably go out and get a few more newborn sized things today. I'll skip the preemie size.

Both my kids were born at 38 weeks. Both weighed 6 lbs. DS was in newborn clothes for 4 days. DD we went directly to 0-3 month b/c she didn't fit well into the newborn size. Both my kids were long though.

My 36-weeker was just over 7 lbs, so he wore newborn outfits for about a week...
