bergfurniture.comBerg Alpine

Berg got its start in 1984 and is best known for its youth and teen furniture, including bunk beds. The company sold nursery furniture from the late 90’s through 2010, when it exited the crib business. At the time, Berg struggled to compete against the many upper-end brands selling in the $650 to $800 range.

Fast forward to 2015 and Berg is back. After the closing of several high-end competitors, Berg decided it was time to dip its toe back into cribs and other nursery furniture. Berg’s new cribs are made of solid wood and are convertible to full-size beds. Cribs are assembled in the company’s New Jersey factory (although the actual components are imported).

As of this writing, Berg just has two crib styles: the Alpine convertible crib is low-profile and designed to sit in the middle of a nursery (an island crib). The Alpine is made of European beech wood and only comes in one finish (a dark grey). One unique feature: the Alpine converts into two pieces of furniture: a full-size bed and loveseat. Price: $710 on Wayfair.

The Ridgewood is a more classically styled crib with curved headboard. Made of Rubberwood, it also converts to a full-size bed and love seat. Price: $700.

Because of the high prices and relatively new furniture, we’ve received little feedback on Berg. However, previous feedback on Berg from the 2000’s was mostly positive. Rating: B
