Shermag Glider Rocker ComboWeb: shermag.com

Canada-based Shermag’s strategy is to under-price Dutailier. Their gliders (which include an ottoman) are sold online for as little as $222. Shermag’s focus is the entry glider market, similar to Dutailier’s Ultramotion rockers.

Most models are in the $250-$400 range with combo packages (rocker plus ottoman) about $500. A few leather and upholstered options are in the $500-$600 range.

So what’s the catch with Shermag’s affordable line? First, these styles are a bit smaller in size than other glider-rockers—they fit most moms fine, but those six-foot dads may be uncomfortable. The color choices are also limited (just one or two, in most cases). And you should try to sit in these first to make sure you like the cushions (no, they aren’t as super comfy as more expensive options but most parents think they’re just fine).

How’s the quality of Shermag gliders? Not great, according to a review of the feedback we’ve received from parents in the past year. We’ve noticed a deterioration in the reviews Shermag has received, both from our readers and other online postings. Concerns range from freight damage to squeaking—and long-term durability is another weak spot here. More than one parent told us their Shermag glider broke after less than two months of use.

Shermag’s cheapest options often come with very cheap fabric and thin cushions, making this bargain not worth the hassle. And even Shermag’s more expensive gliders are dogged by quality issues. Bottom line: there are better choices out there. Rating: C-
