Baby bedding behemoth Crown Crafts used to hold the license on just about every cartoon character you could think of. Today, however, they’ve paired it down to a more manageable group of eight: Disney Baby (and Toddler), Fisher-Price, Nautica Kids, Eddie Bauer, Sesame Street, and Baby Looney Tunes. They also have an organic cotton line called Organically Grown. These are all very basic sets, many made of cotton/poly blends at prices as low as $70 (some are better quality and cost up to $300) and sold in chains like Walmart and Babies R Us.

But the flagship of the Crown Craft’s baby bedding lines is NoJo (pictured). Each year they release a dozen or more designs made of 100% cotton in sets of four or six (four-piece sets now include the comforter, sheet, dust ruffle and blanket—no bumpers). Prices are reasonable, in the range of $140 to $200. The designs are definitely very baby-ish with lots of cotton candy pink and baby blue. Appliqué is okay and designs are heavy on cute bugs, flowers and jungle animals. NoJo also has a sub line like Little Bedding by NoJo (priced around $100) and Kimberly Grant (reviewed separately later in this section).

New this year, Crown Crafts bought the license to make Carter’s bedding sets. Previously, these sets were manufactured by Kids Line which recently went out of business. You’ll see the old Kids Line versions online now until sites sell through their inventory but expect Crown Crafts to step up soon with two new patterns: Jungle and Monkey.

Overall quality with Crown Crafts is basically that you get what you pay for. Higher end items have better appliqué and stitching while low end sets won’t wash and wear as well. Bottom line: stick with the better quality sets (Nojo, Eddie Bauer) and avoid the cheap-o character-theme sets (Disney Baby). Rating: C+
