Product Reviews Nursery
Hopefully, you now have a place for the baby to sleep (and a mattress for her to sleep on). But where are you going to put all those cute outfits that you’ll get as gifts from Aunt Bertha? The juvenile trade refers to dressers, armoires, and the like as “case pieces” since they are essentially furniture made out of a large case (pretty inventive, huh?). Here’s our tips and reviews of dressers.
Our Picks: Brand Recommendations
Our picks for dressers mirror what we picked for cribs. For contact information on these brands, refer to the reviews earlier in this chapter. Here’s a round up:
Good. Just as in cribs, IKEA’s affordable dressers (about $100 to $230) are our top pick if money (or space) is tight. Yes, assembly can be challenging. And these dressers probably won't last until your kid goes to college. But $250 for a double dresser (pictured left)? You can't beat that price.
Better. The dressers from brands like Baby Appleseed (and their sister brand Eco-Chic Baby) as well as Pali are good bets. Eco-Chic at Babies R Us runs $550 for a five drawer dresser or $700 for a double dresser. These dressers feature dove-tail drawers, metal ball-bearing glides and GREENGUARD certification. Pali's double dressers are in the $700 to $900 range with similar quality.
Best. If you’ve got the bankroll, the very best quality in dressers can be found in Natart and Romina. A double dresser from Natart typically tops $1000 (example: Natart's Nest double dresser for $1100) and features top notch construction (at left is a seven drawer dresser from the Alexa collection). Romina is even better, with all solid-wood construction and the very best drawer glides—but a double dresser from this brand can run $1500 to $1800.
