I just received my first order and the books are BEAUTIFUL. Some of them only have a black dot on the bottom, others a black marker line, and others a slash through the upc code.

I would def. give these as gifts.

Notice I said first order...I am expecting two more :o

I got mine too and all were in great shape! Most of mine were marked, but only with a ballpoint pen through the UPC code. A couple were not marked at all. I have a feeling I'll be back on the site...

Yup...got all four boxes. I was very happy with all of the books. I would say about 1/3 of them had no marks on them at all...def. can use them as gifts.

I have to admit I was skeptical before ordering because the company was new.
My books were in perfect condition, all hard cover, no marks, except one that had a pen slash thru the upc code onthe back.

I heard you can sometimes get the pen line off using alcohol if it was done with marker. Obviously, don't try this on a gift book, in case it doesn't work.

Also, the company is not new. They used to be called Strictly Discount Books and I've ordered from them for at least a year, if not more. They must have either changed names or changed hands.

I think it must just be hit or miss with the marks because my Eric Carle flashcards did have a small mark. (It is wrapped in plastic though so you could just take the plastic off if you are giving as a gift.)

I've received 4 of my 6 (blush) orders, and all were in perfect condition...out of the 42 books I've received so far (double blush), only 4 have had any marks - 2 with pen marks through the UPC code, 2 with black marker dots. I'd give any of these as gifts (in fact, that's exactly what I plan to do).

i just wanted to post they offer *fantastic* customer service. i ordered three sets of the carle alphabet cards. two were perfect, and the third was damaged in transit. i emailed them and asked what i should do (they were sold out, so i was hoping that i could mail it back to them and they would refund me, or maybe give me a store credit).

right away, they emailed that they would get back to me (honestly, i didn't have much hope, and it was like $6, so it would have been okay). a couple days later, i get an email that they found an extra one and will be mailing it to me!

My missing order finally arrived. More than a week after the second parcel arrived. They were both shipped on the same day. I'm really happy with the order though. Very minimal markings on the books.

I noticed that the Julie Merberg books have gone up in price since I first placed my order. They were $1.80 per book. Now they're all over $2. Still a good price though.

Anyways, the books for the most part are in new condition. I did pull out one that was pretty rough, and had a black X on the bottom of the book. I had another that was not "gift giving quality". But the others are gorgeous! I will definitely put another order in for my gift stash!

Question - would you say the books are suitable quality for giving as birthday party favors? DS1 is having his 4th birthday at the fire station, and I'd love to give a fire fighter book as the favor. (The fire station provides fire hats, coloring books and crayons.)

It's hard to say for sure what condition the books will be in, but if I were you I would go for it. All my books (50+) were in great condition and I would have no qualms about giving them as a gift....especially to a 4 year old!

All my books were perfect w/the exception of 1 flap book. It appears to be used. The cover was dirty and some pull-tabs in the book were bent. One very large and intricate pop-out piece was ripped apart from the book :(
This won't stop me from ordering again, though. The prices are great!

For those of you who got slightly damaged books, was it noted in the book's descriptions when you purchased? I'm wondering how accurate these descriptions are. My guess is that they're not, but I thought I'd ask.

I have seen some descriptions that very clearly stated that the binding is bent, that a cover is bent, etc. I'm assuming it's hit or miss?

One of my flap books (just one out of the 7 or so I ordered) was a little hairy looking. I didn't really mind in the grand scheme of things because the prices were so great and DC usually destroys them anyhow.

I'm pretty sure there were no indications that the book was in that condition, so I think you kind of have to take your chances. That being said, the rest of the books (non-flap) were in perfect shape.

I wouldn't be worried yet. They ship media mail and that can take 2 weeks or more to get to you. I got my order sooner than that but the media mail guidelines say to expect delivery between a few days and a few weeks.

They put my Eric Carle animal flash cards on top of the book and it rubbed back and forth. There was NO notice of damage in the description when I bought it. WWYD? Has anyone had any luck getting a replacement or compensation? I'm also annoyed b/c this was supposed to be a supplemental gift for my BF's DD.

My Mom & I sat down and put together an order the other day.

This isn't really her "list" of preferred books, but rather a list of the items we bought. We would search and she would say "add that, it's good".

Basically she said that babies and preschoolers needs books that repeat sounds - like animal sounds, even funny sounding words...they keep their interest and make them want to say it. Any book that shows realistic photos of babies, especially faces, as well as seasonal and touch/feel books are great for the infant-2 age developmentally.

Also, she HIGHLY recommends anything by Dr. Suess (yes, I was raised on them too!) or ANY Caldecott winner.

For babies less than 2 years, story-type books are great but just make sure they are not too complex and remember the non-existant attention span...so look for stories that have great pictures.

I did want to update that I have ordered not just once, but twice from sort floor books and have had a wonderful experience each time. I am so happy to have gotten the sam's club polar express anniversary edition, we actually have one from sam's club from last yr, but the boys love it so much (my DH and I actually argue who had to read the book to the kids, b/c we were both sick and tired of it), my DH wanted me to get a copy for both kids, NIP to put into each child's memory box, so they would have a copy of their own someday to share with their own children. Well, I got my order - after about 10 days...not bad. Apparently they ran out of stock on 3 books I had ordered - they credited my debit card immediately. ALL the books were in brand new condition with no marks, etc. I got some great deals and will be buying more.

I'm currently collecting Dr. Suess books. I grew up with the entire colelction (but they got destroyed in a hurricane) and I want Parker to have all of them too. I got a 5 book compelation, and a couple of other ones. So if anyone sees a good deal on Dr. Suess books, let me know!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who has made suggestions about sortfloorbooks - loving it! Just received my first order. 3 books had pen marks on the sides, 2 over the UPC, and 4 books don't seem to have any marks at all. I'll definitely be ordering again!
