We're planning to be in Pittsburgh for a couple of days this weekend (very impromptu). Can anyone suggest things to do with 3 y.o. DD?

Thanks,
Usha.

Ooooooh, I can't wait to read suggestions! DH, DD and I will be in Pittsburgh next Spring sometime to visit my sister and BIL.

The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh! http://www.pittsburghkids.org/
Don't miss it, we had a blast with our 17month old even though she was a bit on the young side.

There's also the National Aviary: http://www.aviary.org/wlcm/wlcm_main.php

And, of course, the zoo: www.pittsburghzoo.org

The Carnegie Science Center: http://www.carnegiesciencecenter.org/defaultHome.aspx
The Human Body exhibit is at Carnegie right now, and I notice they have a "preschool adventures" program that runs for the little ones. Also, a mini-railroad and village exhibit.

HTH!

Great suggestions from the PP - especially the Children's Museum and the Zoo - we go to both multiple times a year. The new Polar Bear exhibit at the zoo is fantastic.

Also - you can go to Station Square to walk around a bit/shop and eat - and then you can take a ride on the incline up to Mt. Washington - then walk from the incline to one of the scenic overlooks of downtown Pittsburgh - really amazing views (and photo ops) up there.

I think you got a couple of great ideas. When we vistited my parents a few summers ago went to the national aviary. it was nicer than i imagined it to be. ds was not around then but my cousins had a blast. i know ds would like it as well. my parents always take my cousins to the science center and comment how they can't wait to take us there. a definite must is the incline. have fun!

When we visit Pittsburgh, I always like to go (and take ds) to Phipps' Conservatory. It is an indoor graden (so nice on a cold day). Right now they have a cool exhibit from Chihuly. It is so neat. They also have a great cafe (much better than most museum like places). Ds likes that they usually have a model railroad exhibit. It's in Oakland, near the Carnegie Museum.

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. I'm so excited about the trip now. I'm thinking the museums and aviary are probably the most likely. The indoor conservatory sounds good too.
We might be brave/foolhardy and try to squeeze in two things on one day, so we can see more.
