smelly Diaper Genie needs Replaced

We've had a Diaper Genie for almost 3 years now. It was great for the first 18 or so months. My husband empties it out every week & sprays it w/Lysol, & periodically cleans it w/bleach. But now, it smells horrendous when it's opened, & even if you get too close to it when it's closed it's pretty bad. We've already thrown one of ours out because of this problem. I'm having another baby in Feb, & don't know if we should trash this one & buy another or try the Diaper Champ. I don't know if the Diaper Champ contains the odors as well as the Genie does at first, or if it also gets this problem after time.
Any long time (thru toddlerhood) experience with the Diaper Champ would be helpful
