Lowering the mattress?

When did you start lowering the mattresses on your cribs -- what age/abilities?

When she started reaching and grabbing, I lowered it one level.

When she started crawling, I lowered it all the way.

When Colin did more than just lay in his crib (I honestly don't remember what he was doing), we lowered it one notch. 2-3 weeks later, we lowered it all the way because he started pulling on the bars (and pulled up shortly after that).

I would highly recommend just going all the way down and not bothering with the middle setting.

Caroline- I just lowered it this week (only partway though). She started scooching around the crib-grabbing the slats. I know she can pull herself up using my hands, and she looked close to being able to grab the top rail....this babyproofing is going to be tough!!! I caught her eyeing an extension cord this afternoon!!! Yikes.
