My fellow users:
A place to check for bargains on the dressers and glider/rockers: Non-specialty (read non-baby specialty) furniture stores. My wife and I just scored a reclining swivel glider rocker WITH ottoman for $140 (tax included) at Darvin Furniture http://www.darvin.com/

Sorry fellow users, this sales ends today.

When I asked the salesman about that unbelivably low price, he admitted that it was a loss leader.

For the totally naive (what few there are in this forum!), loss leaders are advertised products sold at a loss with the intention of drawing traffic into the store that would otherwise not exist, hence the term. A dead giveaway that a product is a loss leader is if it is placed in the back of the store--to view it you pass by all that other merchandise that you may "need". That's one of the reasons that grocery stores put the milk and eggs in the back.

Anyway, the point is, check out general furniture retailers for possible bargains, while I have yet to find one that also carries cribs, most have kids' lamps, dressers and a few carry glider/rockers. Check the newspaper ads, websites and direct mail.

Another bargain hunters tidbit: Our local Aronson Furniture http://www.aronsonfurn.com/default.asp offers a discount to government employees, the sales rep noticed that my wife was wearing her ID and volunteered that info.

A lesson to be learned is to ask about such discounts. For those working for large organizations, HR may or may not have a list.
