Does anyone have any thoughts on the preferred material(s) used for mattress support in cribs? I have found a crib I really like but it uses medium density fiberboard (MDF - a wood product - underneath the mattress (sounds sort of hard!). Others I have seen use something like a spring support system. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Every book I've read that discusses this recommends coil supports. We have the same dilemma: we finally found a crib that meets all of our criteria, but after we bought it (duh, didn't check first!) found out it has wooden slats as supports.

I suppose the slats would work, but since we're trying to do the best thing for baby, and we probably wouldn't place our own mattress on wooden slats, we've renewed our search for the perfect crib.

The Berg crib that we purchased has spring mattress support. I'm not sure if they've updated their website recently but here it is just in case (our set wasn't on it last time I checked) http://www.bergfurniture.com
they are based in NJ.
We purchased the Cody line from buy buy baby.
