I was researching the same thing online for a while, and I have to concur with Lori. The Colgate Classica I seems to be the top-rated foam mattress according to CR and also mentioned in the BB book; and the cheapest I've seen it is at babycatalog.com.

OTOH, a lot of people here seem very happy with their purchase of the Target mattress so you could spend ~$50 and be satisfied.
