We'd like to get an antique white crib and armoire. I see a lot of white out there, but not much antique white. Does anyone either own or know of nice antique white furniture? I saw some at PBK but then I read the quality of their furniture doesn't make it worth the price.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ragazzi makes some. They call it Antico White I think. We got the Antico Mist finish which has a slight greenish tint to it. Sounds funky but makes a really nice look--very unique!

It's impossible to see the finishes online so I'd try to find a local dealer. Plus, they've added another Antico color for 2004 I think.. I can't remember off the top of my head.

Hi,

I did DD's nursery in antique white. I purchased an armoire, night stand, a chest of crawers (instead of a changing table) and mirror from Lexington (http://www.lexington.com/). Their line is called Kids Retreat, and they call the white a beach white. It's a distressed cream-white finish with a yellow undertone. I really like it. Especially the chest of drawers and mirror. I purchased a Childcraft changing pad and attached it to the back of the chest.

DD's room is painted a spring green, and the antique white looks really nice with it. Even with the white woodwork and white closet doors, which I was a bit skeptical before seeing it in real life.

The only thing was, I got a Legacy crib in "vintage white" w/o seeing it in real life, when I really should have ordered the Legacy in antique white. That would have been an almost identical match. There was a thread about this awhile ago:

Bonavita has some cribs and children's furniture in a distressed antique white finish. We have it and really like it.

I have the Baby's Dream Generation Next crib in antique white.

I love it and think it is very well made. The only problem I have noticed or ever read about in terms of this manufacturer is that the wood is pretty soft, making it more prone to nicks. This doesn't really bother me, as I feel in the antique finish it will simply add to the look.
Oh, one other problem discussed in terms of this crib is the potential to pinch the child's fingers with the drop down hinge. This feature is own of the reason's I bought this crib, and I don't find it difficult at all to make certain all legs and arms are down before lifting up the side.

Delta makes some antique white furniture, but I've yet to see it in person -- only online at Target and by special order from Baby Depot.

Also, the Mother Hubbards Cupboards line (cribs by caramiafurniture.com) come in just about any finish available.

I'm looking for the Lexington Kids Retreat changing table but it's dicontinued. I have everything else - I even found the discontinued crib but I can't locate the changing table - any ideas

Thanks

Maybe you could ask Lexington for a list of retailers near you. Some stores might have the changing table in their inventory.

For what it's worth, I didn't buy the changing table. Instead I bought the Kids Retreat chest and attached a contoured changing pad. Above it we hung the scallop-top mirror. I've been happy with this setup for 2+ years. I can post a photo if you'd like.

Good luck!

I really appreciate your reply...thank you so much. I've called everywhere! There are no more in the country. How did you attach the pad? ...and did it ruin the top of the dresser?
Thank you again.

I am pretty sure Morigeau Lepine makes an antique white finish, though they are quite pricey!

I'd second the Ragazzi suggestion - I love their Antico White color.

I'll third the Ragazzi line...We got a crib and dresser\changing table in antico white with a pecan accent color so it's two-toned. LOVE it! However, about 4 months ago our retailer sent us a postcard telling us Ragazzi was dicontinuing antico white this spring. I think in June, maybe? So we didn't get any additional pieces (I sure wish we would have) and unless they are coming out with a enw white, I think Ragazzi may be out. However, they have a snow white I think it's called, and that's not entirely bright white either. I think it has some speckles of color in it. They really do have some cool finishes.

Morigeau has a color choice called "French Vanilla" which is an antique white. You can see it here: http://www.morigeau.com/collections.php?Langue=2&Section=3&Collection=4500&Photo=4500-1

Jessica McClintock sells childrens dressers, desks, etc in antique white. The collection is called the "White Romance Collection" in "Antique White". You can see a zoomed in photo of a dresser here: http://www.greatpricedfurniture.com/viewImages.jsp?imageSet=51234715&imageNumb=1
and you can see the whole collection here: http://www.greatpricedfurniture.com/collections/173/index.html I know it is sold at a chain of stores called Kids' Habitat in the Washington DC area. You can find other dealers here: http://www.americandrew.com/dealer.asp

Mother Hubbards Cupboard might also offer an off-white shade. http://www.mhcfurniture.com/ They are sold at high end baby furniture stores like the NINFRA stores (eg Great Beginnings)

I recall that Bellini had an antique type of white (extra chg for this finish?). It has been several months since I visited the store. Of note, the most recent Consumer Reports rated one of the Bellini cribs at the top of their list.

I also have seen some cribs that are hand painted distressed white in Minnesota or somewhere in the middle of America, and also Vermont that are exquisite, but also quite pricey. Don't recall the names of the companies.

Bellini still sells the antique white finish which looks really nice. I also recall Pali having the antique white finish as well (though I am not 100% sure on that).

Good luck.

EG Furniture has many finishes - they have a cream, white, pearl & antic ivory.

Hope you find something you like!

Our crib is antique white (called vanilla) from Ethan Allen, but I want to warn you against it...we ordered our crib in March, and the crib arrival date keeps on getting delayed. We complained extensively and we got the floor model (damaged) temporarily (our daughter was born in MAY!). Now the expected arrival time is JULY. The store is being nice and gave us a discount, but I think that Ethan Allen chain is continuing to sell these cribs and maybe grossly misleading parents. Its a beautiful crib, but not worth the hassle. We also got a dresser as a changing table and that arrived very quickly.

I have the Baby's Dream Serenity crib in antique white, it was just released in this color and we love it. We also have to matching case pieces.

This crib does have stationary side rails, not sure how you feel about that.

It's not the best but here is a picture of it:

I can vouch first hand for Bellini. They have a white and an antique white color, both of which can be distressed. Their quality is top notch, we have a crib and armoire. The only caveat is that certain styles might not offer certain colors- so be careful getting your heart set on a specific style/color combo.

Rachel Ashwell makes the most beautiful antique white crib but it is really expensive. I don't know her website but im sure you can find it through google. its worth seeing and her crib bedding is so gorgeous. I love her style.

>How did you attach the pad? ...and did it ruin the top of the dresser?

Jen, I'm not the person you originally addressed this to, but I did the same thing. I bought a changing table pad (whichever one they sell at Babies R Us) and it has 2 little straps attached to one side, and comes with screws. You just fasten the screws, through the straps, to the back of the dresser. If it's like my dresser, it probably has some kind of particle board backing anyway, so it's no big deal to put a couple small holes in it.

So the pad didn't actually attach to the TOP of the dresser, but the back. It can still wiggle around a bit, but it's secure enough for my satisfaction (although I have yet to change a baby's diaper on it!).

Just for a bit of info...
Ragazzi is not discontinuing the antico white....it is one of their most popular colors in their antico classico line....they have, though, come out with a new color called distressed snowdrift, which is just a less distressed brighter white than the antico white.
