Have you looked at Bassettbaby? That's the kind that we got from Target and I know they are sold at a couple other stores as well. Try looking at www.bassettbaby.com to see if you find something you like and where they are sold!

I have a crib that I love because it wasn't expensive and is very solid. It's the white Delta Jenny Lind crib (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005AKUK/qid=1095647740/br=1-2/ref=br_lf_ba_2//102-5946673-0831307?v=glance&s=baby&n=542376) - this was just rated #1 by Consumer reports for safety. It's also an amazing $110!

The crib does have finished wood under the mattress but this works great with my Bebe Angelcare sound/motion monitor. It takes 2 hands to lower the side, but I can't hold my 7 month old in one arm anymore anyway, and just lower the side in advance.

Good luck in the crib hunt!

http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?DeptID=327&CatID=8133&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=0a71534&ProdSeq=2&Cat=cribs&Dep=children%27s&PCat=furniture&PCatID=4242&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=28&RecPtr=&SearchIn=0&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&PersistenceID=&RecordID=&SearchString=>

It's only $169 and comes in other finishes. I called JCPenney to get information on the manufacturer and they finally called back today. They said it was Childcraft, but the childcraft website doesn't list this model, so I don't know. Also, the childcraft website doesn't list Penney's as a retailer. I actually came here to see if anyone knew anything about it...

I just emailed them asking abt the manufacture,mattress support and if the harware is hidden or not lets see what they say.
