We are trying to decide on a crib and like the look of the sleigh style with solid wood ends. Are there any disadvantages to this style other than the difficulty with fitting bumpers?

I think solid end cribs are beautiful and elegant. They are usually more expensive than slat-end cribs, but if price is no object, it comes down to pros and cons. Besides the bumper ties (which is REALLY annoying...more annoying than you're thinking it will be now), there are a few positives and negatives.

Pluses
+ solid and sturdy
+ less risk of getting legs/arms wedged in slats (of head/footboard)
+ solid ends can provide sound barrier
+ baby can't see you through footboard slipping into room

Minuses
- might allow less air flow/circulation (not good for SIDS)
- might make baby feel closed in/alone
- more difficult to change sheets, pop mattress up, & possibly adjust mattress height
- less places to attach crib toys, mirrors, mobiles, bumpers
- difficult to sneak a peak at sleeping baby from hallway/doorway without getting directly in view, possibly waking baby!

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with your decision!

Thanks for your pros and cons...they're helpful. I forgot that I had posted this message (pregnancy mush brain) so I was excited when I stumbled across your reply. Of course we still haven't decided on a crib, but we still have some time.
