safety of swing gates on cribs

My wife and I are preparing to buy a crib. We've heard that swing gate cribs are unsafe, but don't understand why. Can anyone explain that more?

"The hinge can be a pinch point as well as an opportunity for larger toddlers to gain a foothold to climb out of the crib." See page 28 of the book. If you haven't ordered it, you should. It's a great resource and it really will save you $.
