My DH and I are leaving to pick up our daughter from China in about a month. I've put off buying a glider/rocker because I wasn't sure if I needed one. She'll be about 12 or 13 months old when we pick her up.

I'd love to hear others' experience about using a glider/rocker when their child is 1 year old. I'm a new mom and have NO experience! Do I need to buy one?

Thanks to all!

I brought home a daughter from Guatemala at 7 months and a daughter from China at 10 months. Both of their rooms have gliders. Even at 19 months and 4 1/2 years old, we use the gliders every night. I still rock my 19 month old to bed. We use the one in my 4 1/2 years room more for reading books. So, yes, I would recommend buying one. I have two Dutailer gliders which are probably the best on the market. One I bought from Goodnightben.com and the other from babyoutletstore.com.

My DS is 17 months old and I still use my glider everyday. It is a great place to rock them and read them stories. I also have a Dutailer glider and I was thinking that I might need another since I am expecting.

I would definitely get one if you plan on using it. I know some who don't which is pointless but if you plan on rocking/reading to baby then definitely! I really enjoy spending time in dd's room because I have an "adult" place to sit. Not sure what I'll do with #2 yet. I had only planned on having one glider. Hmmmmm.

My DD is only 2 months old, and I estimate that I have already spent hundreds of hours in my glider, feeding, rocking, etc.

My daughter is almost 19 months old and I use my Dutailier glider (in her room) daily. We nurse in it at night (which may not be a concern for you) and we snuggle in it to read stories. Last night my husband spent half the night sleeping in it because our daughter screamed bloody murder every time she woke up and realized she was alone.

So my vote is a resounding yes for getting the glider!
