Just wanted to share that you can convert a regular club chair into a glider. We have several odd chairs in our house and the thought of purchasing one more for the nursery seemed silly. So, I searched online and found a part. I found it at:

http://www.swivel-chair-parts.com/RockerSwivelBoxwLegPage.html

There are also pictures on how to install it and the customer service is outstanding. I e-mailed them with a question and they were prompt and polite in their reply. It's very easy to install and we've been thrilled with the results! It swivels and glides and the part was around $50. So if you are in a similar situation, I would highly recommend it as an alternative to purchasing a $400+ upholstered glider.

Great idea! I had seen a similar thread on this a while back but this looks easier. I assume this is for a wing-type or easy chair... just curious, what is the bsae of your chair like? I mean the part that the swivel base is attached to? I imagine it's a cross-shaped arrangement of slats, or is it a solid piece of wood?

thanks again!

It's actually just a basic skirted club chair. We took off the legs and added screwed a piece of plywood to the frame. The the mechanism simply screws to the plywood. The skirt hides the hardware, so no one will ever know it isn't orginally a swivel-glider.

WOW!!! I had no idea something like this existed. We have large overstuffed leather chairs...do you think it would work on something like that? We currently have one in our living room and one in the kids' bedroom. I would love to make it glide so I can rock the new baby, but I also like it because it is big enough to sit with both kids - i.e. to read bedtime stories and say our prayers. Their bedroom is not big enough to add a second glider so this would be perfect. How can I tell if it will accomodate my chair?
thanks!

Hi Jera,

Does your chair have a skirt? If not,the mechanism might show. Check out this link and you can get an idea on how to install it and what the mechanism actually looks like.

Another thing to consider would be the type of legs or feet you chair has. We did have to remove the legs, but the height mechanism maintains the chair's original height.

THANKS so much!!!

It does not have a skirt, but it does hvae approx 4-5 inch legs. I read on the site that it is not recommended for larger or overstuffed chairs, which mine is I think. But I bookmarked the site to show DH. I am really excited about the prospect of it if it works!

I have a silly question. So does your chair swivel or does it glide?

Great idea

It actually rocks and swivels.
