I need some help with decorating our nursery. We are near the end of the process of becoming foster parents, and our first infant should be arriving soon:) We rent, so the white walls will be our background. I'd like to honor the different backgrounds of the children that will come into our care. I'm hoping to try stenciling. My main idea comes from a Pottery Barn bumper called "Kids Around the World." It has ethnic children and animals in bright colors. I am looking for pictures that would be easy to trace and stencil, of ethnic children. Have you seen any in books or through other areas of your lives?? I'd just like to see if there may be other choices than the bumper. I appreciate any help anyone can pass my way. If you'd like to see the bumper, the only place I know you can see it is on Ebay in the baby items section. Any ideas for special phrases or words that can be written in different languages?? Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

I know there is a website store -- I think its address is adoptshop.com, but I could be mistaken -- where they sell a lot of items like books and dolls for Asian children which you could copy and stencil (You'd have to buy the book, of course). You might try that. If the address is wrong, try a search under "adoptshop" or "korean adopt" or something like that. I found it through a website about adopting Korean children, but I can't remember the name of the website. I'm sure there must be websites specialising in items for for Black and Hispanic children as well. Also, Barnes and Noble sells a lot of ethnic childrens books, even some in the original language, so you might look at their store or website for pictures to copy. (And, by the way, if you find any Asian Barbie dolls, let me know! Oh, I've seen some marketed as Asian, but they look like white people with dark eyes and hair.) Good luck, and what a lovely idea to foster children and decorate for them!

What a great idea! If you are actually using that bumper you could xerox it and enlarge the images and using transfer paper (local crart store) put it on the wall. Another possible place for ideas is the picture book section of your local library. Most local libraries have pretty good children's sections and there are a lot of picture books out there with images of diversity!! And really, they have some of the best artwork around!
Good luck!
