Is it necessary to wash the bumper before baby comes home?

This little guy is due anytime now, and I'm in the process of washing all of his things. Since he doesn't come directly in contact with the bumper, I wasn't thinking about washing it, but should I?

I personally didn't and wouldn't bother if I were you. I actually ended up taking it out because I became over concerned with ventilation in his crib (after reading tons of stuff about SIDS).

I vote yes, wash it. It's got all kinds of chemical coatings to make it fresh and crisp. You don't want the little one breathing in all that goop!
