We bought a Regazzi sleigh crib and now we need a matress. Any recommendations. We would probably prefer to buy it at BRU but we can also have Baby Depot and USA Baby nearby. We just want a safe, quality mattress. TIA.

The top rated mattress (by both the Fields and Consumer Reports) is the Colgate foam mattress. That's what we got and I'd do it again in a second.

The best price (even after considering shipping) is at www.babycatalog.com - I don't know if Baby Depot carries it (BRU doesn't, I don't think that USA Baby does).

So the foam is firm enough? Do you have a link to the consumer reports arictle/ratings? Tia

I'm not a subscriber to Consumer Reports, so I can't get you specific information, but even on this free checklist, they mention that you should get "the firmest foam or innerspring mattress you can find."

You'll have to do a search through CR for "crib mattress" on your own.

I also bought the Colgate I mattress on the advice of the Fields' book as well as the proprietor of a local baby-goods store. I have not used it yet, but it seems pretty solid while also being light enough to move around. You should probably go a baby-goods store and check out some of the options... see for yourself what you think will work best for your baby and your concerns.

The foam is very firm! I don't think that you can get to the report unless you are a subscriber (or try your local library).

Consumer reports does offer 30 day free subscriptions, but they don't have a report on mattresses and most of their others are outdated.

Here is a bit of buying guide info to supplement the book:

Agree, babycatalog has the best prices:

My husband is researching mattresses for our new Ragazzi crib as well (I've gotten tired of researching so I assigned it to him!). I'll let you know what we decide.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have a feeling we will be going with the Colgate Classica I. They have it at Small Fry World (Dallas, TX) where we bought our crib. The cost is 109.00. Thanks.
