What layers do you put between the mattress and the baby? Mattress cover? Waterproof mattress cover? Ultimate crib sheet? Sheet saver? Where does the sheet itself come in? I layering system has worked best for you?? Thank you!

I just use a waterproof mattress pad and then a crib sheet. But then, I don't have a baby that spits up a lot or anything.

We used a quilted waterproof mattress pad, then the sheet, and then occasionally, depending on the spitup factor, use a sheet saver under DS's head, or bottom, if needed.

I use a waterproof mattress pad then a crib sheet then a crib-sized flannel pad (like a lap pad only bigger) and then another crib sheet. This way I only have to take the mattress out of the crib to change it completely half as many times. I think I got this system from reading the boards here.
