Paint color for Malawi with orange carpet?

We have purchased the Malawi bedding set for our son's nursery (due June 19). We have white furniture and 1970s bright orange carpet on the floor. We live in a rental house, by the way... My husband is going to paint the currently white walls this wekeend, and I'm wondering what color paint anyone might recommend?

Would the yellow in the giraffe go with the orange carpet? I looked at the picture of the set on the BRU website and it looked like there were different shades of yellow on some of the animals and the background. Maybe you could pick one of those shades that most coordinated with the orange carpet. I don't think that the blue or sage green would go very well with the orange.

Have you thought about buying an area rug in a solid color (like cream or off white) to put over the orange carpet? Some carpet stores have remnants that they will sell at a discount, so you might want to check to see. A lot of times, they can even bind the ends of the carpet remnant for you.
