Dh and I are happy with our Sailboat/Nautical theme choice for the nursery, but I am worried about going overboard...no pun intended.

I've got a matching sailboat quilt, bumper, valance so far and I'm trying to determine how much more themed items I can get without it being overkill.

I think I'll do the walls in a light blue with a general border and then add a few wall decorations I guess.

Here are some wall decorations I'm considering:

With that last link, I can't find the actual sailboat rack anywhere yet, I'm still hunting for that.

Anyway, is that too much nautical stuff? I want the room to be pleasant and fun, I don't want people to only give us 'nautical' decorations/stuffed animals though, you know? How do you keep a good balance?

It all sounds really cute, but I guess what we did (are still doing), is to do part of it and then keep adding things. You've got the bedding and valance, so next, paint the room, or buy a wall decor item or two and see how you like it. Then, if it still looks like you can get away with something else, get the next thing. That way, you don't overdo it.

I don't think you have gone overboard at all.. it all looks really cute.. you should post pictures when your nursery is complete. Infact i think once you think of a theme you should not under-do it.. then it looks kind of bare. I think i saw it on Design on a Dime but they did an underwater theme and they painted the lower half of the walls a darker blue and the upper half a lighter blue (sea and sky).. it looked fabulous. Maybe you can have a mural of a sail boat and a lighthouse?
I saw some 3-D ones on imagiscapes.com

And this is a more beach theme but i really liked it. From walnutz.com

Have fun!

That is a really good idea, I'll pace myself and add as I go instead of ordering everything all at once.

Thanks for the helplful tip, Andrea!

Wow, Rashmi, those are cool. I had never seen imagiscapes.com before. Seems like a super easy way to have a 'mural', dh might love this, he's been mentioned murals here and there.

I couldn't get to walnutz.com, is that the right spelling?

Thanks for your input!
