View Full Version : What, if anything, is hanging on the wall above YOUR crib?

We live near a fault line so I am a little paranoid about hanging anything above beds, but the white wall above DS's crib is killing me!!!

We just moved into a house recently, but since we are still renting it, we are limited in what we can do to DS's roomas far as painting. It is now bright white. One wall is taken up by a large window, and the opposite wall is taken up by the closet doors. The crib is centered on one of the bare walls, and the opposite wall has a piece of art painted by MIL and a wall shelf that matches the crib. Eventually we will get a comfy reading chair for that side of the room as well. On the shelf is an oversized round red alarm clock from PBK, and some primary colored 4"x4" striped blocks from Target that spell Logan. The curtains are the red corduroy belt loop ones from PBK last season, the bumper is PBK Bright Striped Patchwork. The rug is the Connor rug in the current PBK catalog. I have the twin Bright Stripes quilt as well (to use for the eventual big boy room, but I could display it for now). Any ideas for something safe to hang on the wall above DS's crib?

I know I need to take pics, but I hate to take them now since the room is so unfinished!! It's embarrasing!

Edited to clarify one thing!

How about wallies or a soft sculpture (I know you can get letters or objects)? We have wood letters that spell out DDs name. They aren't very big nor heavy so I don't think they would really hurt if they fell down.

We have those wood letters hanging by ribbon spelling out DD's name. We also have the crib a little bit away from the wall because where the crib leg is is where the outlet is and I have the monitor plugged in there, so it has to be a smidge away from the wall to allow room for the plug.

We skipped putting anything directly above the crib and used other walls for decor.

DH made some shelves for the walls (they were screwed in - not just hanging on hooks) and we put some small soft toys on the shelves. The shelves weren't going anywhere (as long as the wall stayed intact) and the soft toys wouldn't do any harm should they fall.

If you wanted to put your DC's name on the wall, you could always stencil/paint it on there or use wallies, or do a mural of some sort! Then nothing can fall down on your baby!

No fault lines around here, so I was a bit brave. I did make sure that the picture is hanging up high enough so that little hands won't be able to reach it.

A framed needlepoint (I think that's what it is) that a relative did for DD. It's very lightweight. Also a fabric alphabet wall hanging from PBK. It's very cute and also interactive. DD has just started noticing it more. I have never seen it on the website or in a catalog, but they still have it at the store. They even have a pastel version now.

I think this will link you to a pic:

I live in earthquake country too. I didn't have anything on the walls around the crib with my first DD, but with my second I have put up her name in letters. The letters are attached to the wall in two ways--by the ribbon they "hang from" which is tied around the nail in the wall, and by double-sided foam sticky tape (which is on the back of the letters, attaching them to the wall so they aren't just dangling from the ribbon.)

Hi, my MIL made #2 DD crib bedding and she found a pattern for fabric puffed letters. She made up my daughters name in matching fabric and we hung it above her crib, it looks so adorable and now that she is 2 she is recognizing the letters and know they spell out her name. She has pulled a few of them down from time to time, but they just have the sewn on plastic rings on the back to hang with nad they are soft so it was never an issue.

DD's room has a moon/stars theme, and I have the saying "A baby is sunshine, is moonbeams and more, brightening your world like never before". It looks like it was stenciled, but it was actually rubbed on. It was so easy. I got it here:

Pam - thank you for that picture!! That wall hanging would be great if I can find one. I haven't seen it before in the store. I'll stop in and ask! We even have almost the same crib, in Natural, along with that mirror and the Aquarium in your pic.

Lori - I've thought about a shelf too. That's a really great point that the wall would have to collapse for the shelf to fall!

Jen - Thanks for the WiseDecor link. That looks like a great option too, since it is removable.

You guys always have fabulous ideas. Thanks so much for the input!

We have Eeboo Animal Alphabet cards on the walls in DS's room, inlcuding over his crib. They wrap around the room-- about two and a half walls worth as a mid-wall border. We used some sort of 3M removable adhesive tab to secure them to the wall. Totally lightweight and harmless.

Here's a link: http://www.growingtreetoys.com/product/4594

I think they also come in flowers and construction tools.

ETA the eeBoo site with more choices: http://www.eeboo.com/startpage.php?cat=30
